Supergirl 2026: Enjoyed it!

Posted on June 29, 2026June 29, 2026 by Didi

Welcome back to my first post in a long long time.
Well, life happened and is still happening – but let me tell you. I really miss typing away my thoughts. I will try my best to post more!

Anyway, so we watched Supergirl last weekend. I came in with no expectations except for the soundtrack. James Gunn helmed movies tend to use nostalgic music to make the movie experience enjoyable. I knew coming in, that this was not a James Gunn film, but I knew that for sure he had some inputs however small.

Milly Alcock, I knew from watching House of Dragons and Sirens, other than that – I had no idea who she was. To be honest, I was so surprised to see her in the Superman movie, as in I was shocked! And it felt really nice seeing her in the Supergirl costume, it was refreshing to see someone – NEW!

Coming into the movie, I had ZERO expectations. I just wanted to be entertained and entertained I was. I really liked and enjoyed it, loved the soundtrack too. And another things I liked was that there was no love angle in the movie – THANK GOODNESS! The message of the movie, well the advice of Kara’s mom hit a nerve because as a mother, it is the same wish that I have for my three children – that they always be GOOD no matter what. You don’t need to be tough, you don’t need to be nice all the time BUT you can always be GOOD. It’s really quite simple, saying it is easy but doing it is hard.

Then the song used during the fight/battle scene left me in awe! It was The Middle originally sung by Jimmy Eat World. When it was released during my time (2001) – it was a rock song. But in the movie, the verson is sung by a female and it was slowed down. Slowing down that song made me rethink the lyrics of the song – and it made perfect sense, absolutely perfect sense.

Watch it with your daughters, I feel like it’s targeted to us. The realities of the struggles of girls growing up.
See the lyrics below:

Hey, don’t write yourself off yet
It’s only in your head, you feel left out
Or looked down on

Just try your best
Try everything you can
And don’t you worry what they tell themselves
When you’re away

It just takes some time
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything’ll be just fine
Everything, everything’ll be alright, alright

Hey, you know they’re all the same
You know you’re doing better on your own (on your own)
So don’t buy in

Live right now
Yeah, just be yourself
It doesn’t matter if it’s good enough (good enough)
For someone else

It just takes some time
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything’ll be just fine
Everything, everything’ll be alright, alright

It just takes some time
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything’ll be just fine
Everything, everything’ll be alright, alright

Hey, don’t write yourself off yet
It’s only in your head, you feel left out (feel left out)
Or looked down on

Just do your best (just do your best)
Do everything you can (do everything you can)
And don’t you worry what their bitter hearts (bitter hearts)
Are gonna say

It just takes some time
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything’ll be just fine
Everything, everything’ll be alright, alright

It just takes some time
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything’ll be just fine
Everything, everything’ll be alright
