I don’t drink coffee. Well, I used to NOT drink coffee. That was until last year, when we stayed in my BIL’s home in Melbourne. He has this AMAZING coffee machine. It was just press here and there and it would produce wonderful coffee. It was quite high tech and requires no further work aside from pressing the screen for which type of coffee drink you would like to have.
One day, we had the house to ourselves – my nieces and nephew were in school the whole day. My BIL had meetings in the city. So while relaxing in their lovely home, I took the opportunity to try out their coffee machine. It was a Jura. What is a Jura? Honestly, I’ve never heard of the brand. The only brands I was aware off in the coffee machine products were Nespresso, Breville, Saeco, and DeLonghi. Well, I know of the Nescafe Dolce Gusto machines because my mother in law has one in her home.
I was quite intimidated with the machine as it had a touch screen and the machine would regularly turn on and I guess ‘clean’ without prompt. This made me really really curious, so I ended up trying one drink. I was watching the machine closely as it was making my drink and suddenly realized that I had time to watch it make my drink. I remember those coffee machine demos (in the department stores) that you had to do everything manually. With this Jura machine, all I had to do was wait. I was super ‘aliw’ with this that I started to ask Panget and Yaya B if they wanted coffee, so I can ‘make’ for them (well it was really just press the machine to make their coffee). We were all impressed with the machine and the taste of the coffee. I know, I know – it’s really the beans, but of course the machine was part of the experience too, right?
It was then that I learned and appreciated drinking coffee. We stayed there for a few days and for that few days, I drank coffee multiple times a day. It was so easy to make coffee, flat white to be exact. I didn’t need any skill nor expertise, all I had to do was press my preferred drink and wait. The machine does all the work. I was truly a very impressive coffee machine. I’m sure you’re curious if I experienced being nervous or had palpitations, well – I’m a daily tea drinker, so I guess my body has been exposed to caffeine. So going back, I was so impressed with the coffee machine that I googled it. And my, oh my! I was SHOCKED to see the cost of Jura machine, I mean – the prices were sky high! So, whatever idea I had in my head, I had to scrap that.
I was complementing the machine to my brother and sister in law and they mentioned that there are some pre-loved units that were being sold in FB Marketplace. Yep, facebook marketplace – you read that right. They then told me that they’ve found gems on that platform. So, I became curious and started browsing but the prices were still high. I then gave up and told my BIL that if he saw a really good deal on the machine, that I am interested to get one.
Fast forward to monthsssss later. I received a message from my BIL saying that he found a good deal. The price was such a bargain that I replied to my BIL and told him to get it for us. I asked Panget, well told him about it (hahaha!) and then proceeded to say that I already asked his brother to get it for us. Hahaha.. He laughed snarkily and looked at me like I was joking. I was dead serious. I told him that we can split the cost of the machine. He gave me an eye and said MAKE SURE HA, HINDI MURA YUNG MACHINE. Well, considering he was on a ‘looking for a coffee machine’ phase, he knew this was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up, it was truly a bargain.

So early this year, my BIL came to visit and he brought with him, our Jura coffee machine! Let me tell you, the box is huge! I was profusely thanking my BIL because he was able to put the box in a luggage, check it in the plane, and carry it out of the airport. I was so excited to bring it home! And when we eventually did bring it home, it was INTIMIDATING AS HELL!
The machine was huge, I didn’t know where to place it. I had to talk to my Kitchen Aid mixer that I would be moving it a little to make space to a new sibling, the Jura coffee machine. The box the machine came in was complete with the instruction manual, cleaning and descaling tablets and a milk container with tubes. I swear, I was so intimidated and scared that I had to read the manual, watch videos on youtube on how to clean it first. The next morning the first thing I did was wipe down the unit. When I turned it on, I felt excited. After overcoming the intimidation – I proceeded to make my first every coffee in my Jura machine. It was truly IDIOT PROOF! All I had to do was plug it it, press the beverage I wanted on the touch screen, wait, and voila – perfectly made coffee!
I haven’t looked back since.
I swear, this was a very very good buy for a very very powerful machine.
Thank you BIL and SIL!
After a few days, I checked online if there was a local distributor of the brand and there is! I contacted them and they are MANILA COFFEE GEAR. I wanted to have my unit checked, cleaned, and serviced before I started my daily usage. I paid a fee of P5,000 and they opened the unit and inspected everything inside. They also checked the usage date of the machine, to see how much coffee was made using the machine. They cleaned and descaled too. It was suggested that this be done once every two years (since I just use the machine once a day). You can check them out here https://www.manilacoffeegear.com/services
So, there..
